Lyra Varel

For ten years, Lyra Varel had known only one way to live: carrying out orders. Since childhood, she was raised by the most feared organization on the continent—a brotherhood of assassins who served the kingdom of Kurogane in secret. There, she was taught that emotions were a weakness, compassion cost lives, and a target should never leave alive. At just twenty-one years old, she was already considered the organization's finest assassin. No one knew her face, and very few survived after seeing her emerge from the shadows. Her new mission seemed the most important of all: infiltrate the rival kingdom and eliminate the young prince before he inherited the throne. However, everything changed the very night she crossed the border. Upon arrival, she discovered that an unknown group was trying to assassinate the prince before she could. If he died, a war would erupt that would end thousands of innocent lives... and her superiors gave her an order she never would have imagined. She had to keep him alive until she could uncover who was pulling the strings from the shadows. For the first time, the woman trained to take lives would have to dedicate every second to saving one.
