Charisma Leveling In A New World

Therethis: A New Life in a New World Public Description The Beginning You died doing the right thing. A split second. A child in the road. A truck that didn't stop. You didn't think about it, you just moved, and then you were gone. No last words, no slow fade. One moment you existed on Earth, and the next you didn't. Then you did again. Somewhere else entirely. You wake up in Therethis, a world of ancient forests, warring kingdoms, roaming monsters, and magic so real it hangs in the air like humidity. A world where elves live in trees that have names, where dwarves forge weapons that sing, where creatures out of every myth you've ever heard walk the same roads as farmers and merchants and wandering adventurers. You are not the first person to arrive here from somewhere else. But you might be the most unprepared. CLAIRE The first thing you hear, before you fully understand where you are or what happened to you, is a voice. "Hello. I'm CLAIRE. I'll be your guide for your time in Therethis. Let's start with the basics." CLAIRE, the Cognitive Level Adaptive Intelligence Reality Engine, is an RPG system bound directly to your mind. She exists as a voice in your head and a heads-up display only you can see: menus, stats, quest logs, level indicators, all of it overlaid on your vision as you step inside a game. Except nothing about this is a game. CLAIRE tells you what you are: Level 1. She tells you what that means: your HP, MP, Strength, Intelligence, Defense, and Charisma are all baseline, the floor, the starting point. Every enemy you defeat, and every quest you complete, earns you experience. Enough experience and you level up. Every level makes you stronger, smarter, harder to kill, and opens new skills and magical abilities you didn't have access to before. She also tells you something about Charisma that stops you cold. Most people treat it as a social stat. Something for traders and diplomats. But at high enough levels, Charisma in Therethis becomes something else entirely: the ability to stop a fight before it finishes. To look an enemy in the eye and say something that reaches the part of them that remembers being a person. Bandits, monsters, soldiers on the wrong side of a war- given enough Charisma, you can turn them. Not trick them. Actually turn them. CLAIRE's recommendation: don't sleep on it. Honeywood Your first home in Therethis is a small elven town called Honeywood, tucked inside a forest so ancient the trees have individual names passed down through generations. It is not a city of warriors or merchants or power brokers. It is a town of weavers and herbalists and historians, people who have lived quietly inside their forest for centuries and have very rarely needed to look outward. The homes grow from living wood. Bridges of woven branch connect platforms high in the canopy. Amber moss lanterns light the paths below. Everything smells faintly sweet, like perpetual bloom. It is peaceful. It is beautiful. And not a single person in it has ever seen a human before you showed up at its edge. The People You Meet Riley Shortqueen She is the first face you see when you open your eyes. She is petite, five feet tall with a compact build and dark brunette hair cut to just below her jaw, so deep it reads as nearly black in the amber glow of the forest's moss-light. Her eyes are warm brown, steady and precise, the kind that register everything before most people have finished walking through the door. Her ears taper to elegant points. She looks eighteen. She has looked eighteen for thirty-nine years. Riley Shortqueen is Honeywood's healer, trained in restorative magic since childhood, and she was the one who found you at the forest's edge when you appeared out of nowhere. She dragged you to safety herself, which tells you something about her before she's said a word. She has never met a human before. She has read about them. Her first words to you are about your ears. Riley becomes one of your first and most important connections in Therethis. She is relentlessly curious, occasionally forgetful that questions can be rude, and fiercely loyal to the people she decides to care about. She will follow you into things that scare her without telling you she's scared, and she will patch you back together afterward without complaint. Kiley Shortqueen Riley's younger sister is a different kind of presence entirely. Where Riley is small and dark and warm, Kiley is tall, five-eleven, with blond hair past her shoulders and sharp blue eyes that have a way of making you feel like you are being read rather than looked at. She is lean and athletic, with the particular build of someone who spends most of their time using their mind and their hands simultaneously. Her ears come to the same elegant points as her sister's. She appears sixteen. She is forty. She is also one of the most powerful magic users in all of Therethis. Not promising for her age. Not talented with potential. One of the most powerful, right now, by any honest measure. She carries this the way some people carry a gift they were born into and never fully chose: naturally, quietly, with an awareness that the people around her have never quite known what to do with her. Her magic outgrew Honeywood's ability to teach her years ago. She is still figuring out who she is outside of what she can do, and that tension is one of the most interesting things about her. She trusts slowly. She has been watching you since you arrived. Aldric Heathcliff The Captain of the Guard arrives, and the clearing gets smaller. He is tall and broad with close-cropped gray hair and a scar along his jaw from a fight he won decisively, and he moves with the controlled economy of someone who has been genuinely capable for a very long time and has never needed to prove it. He is the best swordsman in Honeywood and has been for as long as anyone can remember. He wears a simple tunic to training sessions because he considers full armor a form of condescension toward the student. He is not related to Riley or Kiley. He will tell you this if you ask. He will also refer to them as his daughters without any awareness of contradiction, because as far as he is concerned there is none. He stepped in when their parents died because they needed someone, and he was there, and leaving them without someone was not something he was capable of doing. He does not consider this exceptional. His opinion of you when you first meet is professional neutrality. You are an unknown in a town he has long protected. He will watch. He will assess. His respect is slow to earn and difficult to lose once you have it, and what he teaches you in the two days before you leave Honeywood will keep you alive in situations you couldn't have survived without it. Cedric Heathcliff Aldric's son is eighteen, dark-haired and broad-shouldered, with the hands of someone who has spent years at a forge: burns, calluses, and the particular stain that the work leaves that never fully washes out. He is taller than his father and does not yet carry himself with the same presence, which is not a criticism. He is becoming something. He needs the forge for that. He is not unfriendly. He simply trusts his hands more than his words and has never seen a reason to change that. The quality of what comes out of his workshop speaks more clearly than he ever bothers to. If you need gear, weapons, or something built to your exact specifications, Cedric is your answer. He will not overcharge you and he will not pretend to be warmer than he is, which turns out to be a form of honesty you come to appreciate. He will watch Katty shoot for one session without saying a word. Then he will go back into the forge and start working on something. He will hand her a custom bow three days later without explanation, built to her exact draw weight and arm length and release style, and go back to work. This is how he expresses most things he cannot put into words. Katty Flames Three days after you arrive in Honeywood, the world does it again. She appears at the forest's edge the same way you did, with no warning and no explanation. Her hair is dark auburn-red, bright copper in the forest light, and her green eyes find you across the clearing before anyone has finished processing that she is there. She is twenty-two years old, five-foot-seven, and built with the lean, restless energy of someone who has never fully stopped moving, and she is still wearing the dress she put on in Chicago that morning. When she sees you, her face goes through seven emotions in two seconds, and she leads with the most defensible one. Is that you? Oh my god, you look like a total dork in this lighting." She was your best friend. She knew the version of you that existed before you learned to be careful about what you showed people. She also kept you firmly, kindly in the friend zone for as long as you knew her, while you spent years being quietly, helplessly in love with her and telling yourself you had made peace with it. She is here now. In a world that should not exist. Looking at you like you are the only fixed point she has. What neither of you knew until Therethis revealed it is that Katty has a gift. Back on Earth, there was nothing to trigger it. Here, she picks up a bow on her first full day in Honeywood, and what follows is not a learning curve but a confirmation. Her aim is instinctive. Her intuition for distance and angle is the kind that usually takes years to develop. Cedric watches from the forge and quietly starts working on something better for her. She is funny and warm and braver than she knows, and she is going to have a lot of questions about why you got here three days before she did. The Party One week after you wake up in Honeywood, you leave it. CLAIRE has been clear that experience does not come from staying still, and the world beyond the forest is enormous. So you go, and you go with three of them. Riley, because she was first and because a party without a healer runs out of options fast. Kiley, because the gap between what she is capable of and what she has been given room to do is something she has wanted to close for years. Katty, because she asked and because you were never going to say no and because three arrows through a target at distance on day five of holding a bow is not something you leave behind. The four of you step out of Honeywood and into Therethis, and the road opens up longer and stranger and more dangerous than any of you fully understand yet. That is usually how the best stories start. The World of Therethis Therethis is vast. A continent of sweeping forests and storm-carved mountain ranges, of sunken ruins reclaimed by jungle and coastlines where the sea glows faintly blue at night. It is a world where magic is not myth but infrastructure, where the creatures of legend walk trade roads alongside farmers and merchants, and where power is earned in blood and experience and occasionally in a well-timed conversation with someone who was about to kill you. The races of Therethis include the long-lived Elves whose cities grow from living wood, the stubborn and masterful Dwarves who carved their homes from mountain stone and never fully left, the fast-spreading and chaotic Humans who build kingdoms and burn them down and build new ones, the widely feared and frequently misunderstood Orcs whose clans range from raiders to scholars, and dozens of others: Beastkin, Gnomes, Merfolk, and things older than any civilization that answer to nothing but instinct. Magic pools in the earth and rises through ancient trees and concentrates in the bodies of monsters. Mana Points fuel every spell. Monsters press against city walls and lurk in trade roads and nest in places no one has checked in a generation. Therethis is not safe. It rewards courage and punishes carelessness. You are Level 1. The road is open. Go.
