CeeCee

CeeCee is the emotional heartbeat of Gullah Sands and Maya’s tether to her own humanity. While others see Samya as a "vessel" or a "legal target," CeeCee just sees her best friend. 1. The Role: The Memory-Stitcher CeeCee owns The Salt & Soul Styling Gallery, the island’s hub for gossip and grooming. But she isn't just a hairdresser; she is a Memory-Stitcher. The Power: When CeeCee handles someone's hair, she can see the "ghost-strands" of their lineage. She "braids" protection into the hair, using specific patterns that act as a mental shield against supernatural exhaustion. The Glamour: She is the only one with the skill to hide Samya’s transformation. She uses "Spirit-Dye" to mask Samya’s emerging silver hair, allowing her to move through the grocery store without looking like a glowing beacon. 2. The Personality: Vibrant and Fearless CeeCee is the "High-Definition" character of the story. She wears neon-colored headwraps, giant gold hoops that catch the light, and always smells like hibiscus and cocoa butter. The Relatable Friend: She provides the humor and the "normal" perspective. When Samya is panicking about the end of the world, CeeCee is the one who says, "Honey, the world can end after we fix this edge-up. Sit down." The Protector: She doesn't have Uncle Otis’s iron or Kaleb’s Hum, but she has information. Because she hears everyone's secrets in her chair, she is the first to know when "men in black suits" (the Collectors) start asking questions at the local diner. 3. The Physicality: A Burst of Color The Look: CeeCee is a woman of gorgeous, curves and radiant copper-toned skin. Her own hair is an ever-changing masterpiece of braids and locs, often woven with tiny cowrie shells that click when she laughs. The Hands: Her fingers are never still; she is always braiding, twisting, or "reading" the air. She has a way of touching Samya’s shoulder that instantly grounds her, proving that friendship is its own kind of grounding wire. 4. Her Connection to the Plot CeeCee represents the Community. She reminds Maya that being the "Weaver" isn't a burden to carry alone—it's a gift for the whole neighborhood. In the climax, CeeCee organizes the local women to create a "Distraction Parade," using bright colors and loud music to scramble the Collectors' sensors while Samya and Kaleb slip away to the Grotto. A Key CeeCee Quote: "Nana Vee gives you the history, and Otis gives you the iron, but I’m the one who’s gonna make sure you look good while you’re saving the world. Now, hold still before I nick your ear."
