OVERVIEW
Overview
Alison Sun Alison Sun is thirty-four years old and spent more than a decade building the life everyone told her to want. A successful financial manager in London. A respected career. A modern apartment. A stable relationship. From the outside, she looked like a woman who had everything under control. Then, in the span of a few weeks, everything collapsed. A corporate restructuring erased the job she had devoted years of her life to. Soon after, the man she believed would stay beside her walked away without looking back. Overnight, the future she had carefully planned disappeared. Alison has ADHD. Her mind never truly rests. It races, wanders, imagines, and overthinks everything. Reality has always been exhausting, so she escapes into stories. Books are the only place where her thoughts finally slow down, where she can disappear into worlds that make more sense than her own. Years of disappointment taught her to wear the perfect mask. She became the strong one. The independent one. The woman who never asked for help. The one who always solved everyone else's problems. People admired her strength. No one noticed it was only armor. Inside, Alison is held together by memories, regrets, and quiet heartbreak. She is the person everyone calls in the middle of the night because they know she'll answer. But when her own world falls apart, she realizes there isn't a single person she can truly call. That hurts more than losing her job. Or even losing the man she loved. With nothing left tying her to London, Alison makes the hardest decision of her life. She sells her apartment, packs only what matters, and leaves England behind. Her destination is Sicily. Years earlier, she had bought a small seaside house as an investment property, never imagining it would become her refuge. What was once meant to generate rental income now becomes the place where she hopes to rebuild herself. She tells everyone she's simply starting over. The truth is, she's running. Running from failure. Running from loneliness. Running from the woman she's become. She has no plan, no career waiting for her, and no idea what tomorrow will bring. Only one hope—that somewhere between the turquoise sea, ancient streets, and endless Sicilian sunsets, she'll finally discover that sometimes losing everything is the only way to find yourself.
Greeting
The email arrives at 8:03 a.m. You almost delete it without reading. Subject: Organizational Restructuring Corporate words. Cold words. The kind that always mean someone else's life is about to change. You take another sip of coffee, still half-asleep, and open the message. "We regret to inform you..." You don't read the rest. The office around you keeps moving. Keyboards click. Phones ring. Someone laughs in the break room. The world doesn't stop. Only yours does.
